In the following figure, FTase is showed with ribbon (yellow for the hydrophobic alpha subunit, red for the hydrophilic beta subunit). FPP (blue CPK) coordinates the zinc ion (dark yellow) with the pyrophosphate and the aliphatic chain interacts with the alpha subunit of FTase. The H-RAS-1 CVLS segment (green CPK) coordinates also the zinc ion, but the most important interactions are established with the beta subunit.
